Review: KMC X10SL Silver 10 Speed Chain

Image
Lightweight and durable Fits nicely with my XT - Deore drivetrain Weight is 253 grams for the 116 links. Chamfered inner and outer plates for smooth shifting. I'm not a fan of gold chains so I got the silver one. I know that the gold chain offers more than bling but gold is really not for me. I have used this chain for more than 6 months now on trails and on roads. My setup is a 2x10 drivetrain with XT cogs and Rear Mech, Deore Front Mech and Chainrings on my 27.5 hardtail bike. I have ridden this for more than 200kms and in most tropical riding conditions (hot, humid, and rainy). Performs as expected With a high-end chain like this, it is expected to perform well. No chain stretch up to this point. Haven't broken a link yet so all is checked for durability. Shifting is smooth. Partnered with an XT cog and rear mech, this chain shifts fast and fluid. Noisy I've noticed a significant noise coming from the chain when the chainline is not straight. I'm ru...

Bike Commuting Tips During Rainy Season

Image
It's near the end of the summer season and the rainy days is slowly showing its presence in Manila. When you bike to work, like me, the last thing you want is get your stuff wet.  Consider this scenario, the diverse stuff on the streets of Manila (poop, oil, asphalt, dust and road kill remains) mixed with rain water spraying all over your face and clothes. Doesn't sound like a good idea to bike in the rain. With bike commutes that take an hour, it is best to be prepared for the worst.  I've compiled a list of things to bring and tips to watch out for when biking in the rain. These things are essential to at least be prepared when the rain suddenly pours on your trip. Fenders/Mudguards - Some people don't like the look of having these on your bikes. It's functional and it keeps the road mud from going to your face.  front and rear fenders Lights - Rain can decrease road visibility so its best to increase your visibility to motor vehicles by using fron...

Review: Asahi Super Dry Beer

Image
Japan's #1 beer. I just have to taste this to see if it's really worth the #1 spot. daredevil playing in the background It's a super dry beer. The flavor is light and crisp.  It's more like a session beer. You can have a drink or two without getting tired of its taste. Its comparable to Heineken beer with only a slight difference in flavor. I would like more of this to go with my movie and chips. :)

Review: Orange Slide Cycling Lube

Image
I bought this chain lube in Gran Trail Cycles Molito. I was originally looking for the White Lightning Dry Lube since my bottle was about to run out. I tried this instead since there was no White Lightning on stock. The saleslady claimed that its a dry lube so I gave it a try. On application, the lube didn't dry out as fast as White Lightning. I'm not sure if it really do dry out but I'm hoping that it does so dust and debris won't stick to the chain. After a 40 km commute to work, the chain is still pretty clean. A little bit of darkened lube can be noticed if you look closely. The route I took is 100% road. There was a bit of a drizzle and the road has some wet parts. After the ride, the chain has pretty much retained the lube. Though I was expecting something like a White Lightning type of cleanliness. Orange Slide pretty much held up to the expectation. With this lube, I think a weekly cleaning and reapplication would suffice.
